Turning Silence into Connection: Behavioral Health at Morgan County Medical Center

For Mental Health Awareness Month, TPCA is spotlighting the important behavioral health work happening at member health centers across Tennessee. At Morgan County Medical Center, connection, compassion, and access are at the heart of their approach to mental health care.

Morgan County Medical Center offers a comprehensive range of behavioral health services designed to meet people where they are. Patients can access counseling, tele-counseling, outpatient psychiatry, and substance use disorder treatment, ensuring care is available even when transportation or stigma might otherwise stand in the way. Their services support individuals across the community who are facing mental health challenges, substance use concerns, or both.

What sets their program apart is access. Morgan County Medical Center offers outpatient psychiatry services and medication-assisted treatment for substance use disorder, including Sublocade and Suboxone. This local access can be life-changing, reducing hindrances for patients who might otherwise have to travel long distances for care.

Substance use disorder is one of the most pressing needs in the community, and the team recognizes that treatment doesn’t stop with the individual. They also provide support and education for families, helping loved ones understand addiction and how to walk alongside those in recovery.

In alignment with this year’s Mental Health Awareness Month theme, Turning Silence into Connection, Morgan County Medical Center emphasizes creating safe spaces for patients to open up. Counselors offer nonjudgmental one-on-one therapy and group sessions, fostering trust, understanding, and connection.

That sense of connection can be powerful. One patient who had lived with severe depression hadn’t left her home in over a year. With ongoing counseling and support, she gradually reconnected—returning to time with her family and engaging in activities outside her home once again.

Through compassion, access, and meaningful connection, Morgan County Medical Center is helping turn silence into healing.
