October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and the Tennessee Primary Care Association (TPCA) is proud to join the national effort to promote safe and secure online practices.
Led by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA), Cybersecurity Awareness Month is now in its 22nd year. Each October, organizations across the country come together to highlight the shared responsibility we all have in protecting our digital lives—whether at work, at home, or in our communities.
This year’s theme, “Stay Safe Online,” focuses on making cybersecurity approachable and achievable for everyone. At TPCA, that means helping our member health centers strengthen their digital defenses and protect the sensitive data that keeps patient care running smoothly.
“Cybersecurity isn’t just an IT issue—it’s a critical part of how we support health centers and safeguard patient trust,” said Becky Grando, Center for Quality in Community Health Senior Director. “By taking small, consistent steps, we can all make a big impact in keeping our systems and information secure.”
The Core 4 of Cyber Safety
Throughout October, TPCA is sharing practical tips centered around the Core 4 cybersecurity practices—simple habits that help protect both individuals and organizations from common cyber threats:
- Use strong passwords and a password manager
- Turn on multifactor authentication (MFA)
- Update your software regularly
- Recognize and report phishing and scams
By focusing on these four steps, anyone—from IT teams to front desk staff—can play an important role in keeping information safe.
