National Health Center Week 2025 | “Celebrating the Past, Present, and Future”
At Memphis Health Center (MHC), caring for children goes beyond treating symptoms—it’s about nurturing the whole child and supporting the whole family. In the spirit of National Health Center Week and its theme of honoring six decades of community health impact, TPCA is proud to feature MHC’s Children’s Wellness Clinic (CWC), a new initiative focused on long-term wellness and whole-person care.
Led by Dr. Sachin Jogal, a full-time pediatrician at MHC, the Children’s Wellness Clinic is redefining pediatric care in Memphis by integrating medical, behavioral, and dental services into one coordinated visit. With a strong emphasis on weight management and preventive care, this new model aims to address the root causes of childhood obesity and promote healthy habits that last a lifetime.
A Comprehensive Care Approach
Each child's first appointment at the Children’s Wellness Clinic is a 90-minute visit—a full hour with Dr. Jogal, followed by a 30-minute session with MHC’s Behavioral Health team. In many cases, the visit also includes a same-day dental appointment.
What sets the CWC apart is its comprehensive approach. The care team doesn’t just focus on physical health. They look at every contributing factor—from nutrition and family history to financial stress and adverse childhood experiences. By addressing the non-medical factors of health, the clinic aims to support each child’s total wellbeing.
“We promote healthy lifestyles as the foundation for holistic health,” says Dr. Jogal. “We actively assess adverse childhood experiences and seek out protective factors that build resilience in children and families.”
To further support treatment options, MHC is also exploring partnerships with pharmaceutical companies to make GLP-1 medications accessible to patients who may benefit from them in their weight management journey.
Building Healthy Habits Early
Recognizing that reading is a key part of early development, the clinic has teamed up with local partners to create a dedicated children’s waiting area filled with age-appropriate books—and every child gets to take one home.
MHC is also investing in maternal and infant health by organizing lunches for expecting mothers, hosted in collaboration between Dr. Jogal and NP Wells, OB/GYN. These sessions provide a supportive space for moms-to-be to learn what to expect throughout pregnancy and receive guidance on proper nutrition—both for themselves and their future babies. Attendees leave with helpful handouts and thoughtful MHC-branded gifts.
A Vision for Healthier Futures
“Memphis Health Center is excited to offer the Children’s Wellness Clinic for the children in the Memphis area,” says Dr. Robert DeColli Jr., DO, Chief Medical Officer at MHC. “The clinic, through medical and behavioral treatment, will foster healthy lifestyles and, as a result, improve the lives of the people we serve.”
Dr. Jogal echoes this vision:
“Children’s Wellness Clinic is about a child’s wellbeing. We are actively engaged in the community to build prevention and intervention strategies—from maternal health onward.”
