Several individuals were honored with TPCA Awards of Excellence at the 2017 President’s Dinner. The awards, which recognize commitment to the health center movement, were presented Jennifer Williams of Lifespan Health; Holly Fletcher, formerly with the Tennessean; and Anne Carr of Smith Harris & Carr.

Williams (top photo, center), the chief financial officer of Lifespan Health, received the Susan P. Smith Award. The award recognizes outstanding contributions in advancing health center programs and working to strengthen the partnerships between health centers and TPCA staff. Williams has served on the TPCA Education Committee for several years and led the committee as chair in 2017.

Fletcher (middle photo, second from left), former healthcare reporter for the Tennessean newspaper, received the Irwin Venick Advocate Award, which recognizes excellence in advocacy for supporting, promoting and improving access to comprehensive, high quality, cost-effective health care for all Tennesseans. Fletcher has written stories throughout 2017 about the fiscal cliff and advocating for health centers. She notably contacted every member of the Tennessee Congressional delegation to ask them where they stood on funding health centers, and published their responses in a September article.

Anne Carr (bottom photo, left), a principal in the firm Smith Harris & Carr, received the William V. Corr Award, which recognizes outstanding leadership resulting in health policy development or innovative program implementation in Tennessee. Carr, who has recently announced her retirement, has served TPCA as its lobbyist since the inception of TennCare in 1994. Over the years, she has been instrumental in developing a strong reputation for Community Health Centers within the Tennessee General Assembly.
