Loan Repayment Programs

Loan Repayment Programs

National Health Service Corps for Students

The NHSC Loan Repayment Program offers fully trained primary care physicians (MD or DO), family nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, physician assistants, dentists, dental hygienists, and certain mental health clinicians $60,000 to repay student loans in exchange for two years serving in a community-based site in a high-need HPSA that has applied to and been approved by the NHSC as a service site.

After completing their two years of service, loan repayors may apply for additional years of support. The loan repayment program recruits both clinicians just completing training and seasoned professionals to meet the immediate need for care throughout the nation.

National Health Service Corps for Health Centers

Federally qualified health centers, rural health clinics, and other sites that care for low-income and uninsured people can become NHSC-approved sites where dentists, dental hygienists, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, physician assistants, and mental health professionals who are eligible for loan repayment funding or have received scholarships can fulfill their service obligation.

Tennessee’s State Loan Repayment Program (TSLRP)

TSLRP provides educational loan repayment to qualified primary care practitioners in exchange for an initial two- year service obligation to practice full-time or part-time at an ambulatory public, non-profit or private non-profit primary care site located in a federally designated Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA).

*A Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) is a geographical area, population group, public or non-profit private medical facility, or public facility determined by the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services to have a shortage of primary health care and dental health professionals.
