Billing & Coding Specialist
The Billing and Coding Specialist is a member of the accounting team whose primary responsibilities include performing the daily processing of insurance and other third-party payer claims and assigning required Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), Evaluation and Management Services (E/M) and International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) codes. &nbsp;The Billing and Coding Specialist works collaboratively with other members of the accounting department to ensure timely and accurate submission of patient remittance claims.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> <strong><u>ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:</u></strong> <ol style="list-style-type:lower-roman;"> <li value="5">Under general supervision, assign the appropriate diagnostic and/or procedural code(s) to patient health information documents.</li> <li value="5">Research and resolve general coding issues; communicating with cross-departmental teams and/or vendors as necessary.</li> <li value="5">Electronic Charge Entry (Super Bills): Review <st1:stockticker w:st="on">CPT</st1:stockticker> Codes, ICD-10 Codes, Patient information, insurance information, charge information, billing/examining provider information for accuracy.</li> <li value="5">Manual Charge Entry: Input data from paper encounter forms such as hospitals, nursing homes, home health, labs, and body boxes. Charge entry will also be used for correcting claims that contained errors, that were denied, or that were rejected.</li> <li>Monitor the department processes and practices; make recommendations for process improvement and ways to increase revenue.</li> <li value="5">Manual Payment Posting: Input data from insurance remittance advice and patient payment batches into the practice management system.</li> <li value="5">Electronic Payment Posting: Review and post batches from Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA).</li> <li value="5">Claims Submission: Processes electronic claims (and paper claims when applicable) to third-party payers on a daily basis.</li> <li value="5">Claims Correction: Review and correct all claims that have been denied or rejected on a weekly basis.</li> <li value="5">Attend seminars, trainings, and conferences as required by the Manager to stay updated on current trends and processes.</li> <li value="5">Prepare and submit to Manager, reports monthly and upon request.</li> <li value="5">Assists other members of the organization as required or assigned.</li> <li value="5">Performs other necessary duties as required by the health center to meet the goal of providing primary health care services.</li> <li value="5">Work A/R report bi-monthly.</li> <li value="5">All other duties and responsibilities as directed by Financial Services Manager.</li> </ol>

Requirements <strong><u>EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:</u></strong> <ol style="list-style-type:lower-roman;"> <li value="5">High school diploma or equivalent required.</li> <li value="5">Bachelor&rsquo;s degree from an accredited college or university in Health Education or related field, or equivalent years of experience in a related field preferred.</li> <li value="5">Five (5) years of more experience in a medical office working with insurance claims processing involving <st1:stockticker w:st="on">CPT</st1:stockticker>, HCPCS, ICD-10CM, and <st1:stockticker w:st="on">CMS</st1:stockticker> regulations.</li> <li value="5">Familiarity with <st1:stockticker w:st="on">CMS</st1:stockticker>1500 and UB04 claim form completion.</li> <li>Familiarity with health insurance and other third-party billing practices and guidelines.</li> <li value="5">Computer literate and high proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li value="5">Knowledge of applicable local, federal and state laws relating to billing practices and healthcare management.</li> <li value="5">Strong analytical, oral, written communication skills.</li> </ol> Strong ethical, professional and personal integrity.
