Dental Cashier
The Dental Cashier is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the dental office. This position is accountable for the dental department achieving operational and financial success within the department. This position is responsible for organizing and coordinating office operations and procedures in order to ensure organizational effectiveness and efficiency. Supports mission and goal achievement, organizational quality and patient-centered care. Incorporate core organizational values of quality, respect, integrity, partnership and compassion in all activities and decisions. Plans, develops, organizes, evaluates, and directs front office clinic site activities under the direction of the Patient Financial Services Manager.<br /> <br /> <strong>ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong> The following are indicative of the essential functions required to perform this job successfully: <ol style="list-style-type:lower-roman;"> <li value="5">Greets patients and answers the telephone in a courteous and professional manner, address questions and directs calls.</li> <li value="5">Ensures patient confidentiality and provides patients with needed information.</li> <li value="5">Schedules appointments and maintains smooth patient flow throughout the dental clinic.&nbsp; Accurately classify and schedule patient appointments.</li> <li value="5">Ensure that patient appointments, cancellations and last-minute adjustments are handled properly.</li> <li>Establishes that each patient is advised of the Sliding Fee Scale and makes adjustments accordingly.</li> <li value="5">Collects and maintains patient registration and utilization data for reports.</li> <li value="5">Answer phones and direct calls to proper personnel.</li> <li value="5">Ensure accurate demographic information is entered in practice software.</li> <li value="5">Process and prepare credit card transactions for reconciliation.</li> <li value="5">Ensure accurate and timely filing of all patient-related paperwork.</li> <li value="5">Verifies dental insurance and Pre-authorizes sealants for patients ages 5-18.</li> <li value="5">Responsible for accepting cash and credit card collections.</li> <li value="5">Assists with managing dental patient flow.</li> <li value="5">Handles X-Ray requests from outside dental agencies.</li> <li value="5">Ensures all charts are complete at the end of each day and have been signed and completed by the dentist. Works with the billing department to ensure all completed treatment plans have been coded.</li> <li value="5">Prints gift card forms for Dental Hygienist.</li> <li value="5">Assist in all The Joint Commission, UDS, OSHA, CLIA, VFC, PCMH, State, Federal and other CHC standards clinics are required to adhere to.</li> <li value="5">Facilitate communication, problem-solving and conflict resolution between all departments.</li> <li value="5">Develop and recommend changes in operational procedures that promote quality patient-centered care, productivity and revenue enhancement, risk management, cost savings, employee engagement and satisfaction.</li> <li value="5">Counsels with patients who have delinquent accounts to develop a payment arrangement and follows up on all pay-off arrangements.&nbsp; Contacts patients with delinquent accounts by telephone or mail.&nbsp;</li> <li value="5">Performs daily bank deposits and complies with all cash handling policies.</li> <li value="5">Basic data entry input of patient demographic, insurance and other relevant information into Nextgen Practice Management system.</li> <li value="5">Records all-cash transactions from the deposit of fee payment.</li> <li value="5">Provides receipts to patients who make payments on accounts.</li> <li value="5">Forwards all files and total receipts to Accounting at the end of each working day.</li> <li value="5">Process, balance and post all financial batch collections for the day to ensure cash drawer balance is reconciled with receipts on a daily basis.&nbsp;</li> <li value="5">Maintains necessary reports as needed to assist and support the finance department.</li> <li value="5">Submits delinquent accounts to the billing department and follow up on the collection performance each time with the patient as they present at MHC.</li> <li value="5">Provides assistance and performs additional duties caused by fluctuation of workload, problem resolutions and absences as assigned.</li> <li value="5">Codes all completed treatment plans and creates new forms for record-keeping.</li> <li value="5">Performs other necessary duties as required by the health center to meet the goal of providing primary health care services.</li> </ol>

Requirements <strong><u>EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:</u></strong> <ul> <li>High School Diploma required.&nbsp; Bachelor&rsquo;s degree (B.A.) preferred from a four-year college or university; or one to two years&rsquo; related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.&nbsp;</li> <li>Community Health Center Background.</li> <li>1 &ndash; 3 years of medical office experience</li> <li>3 years of cash handling and patient data entry experience in a medical billing office or facility.</li> <li>Must have general math and clerical skills.</li> <li>Knowledge of Medicare, TennCare, Commercial, and Sliding Fee payment methods.</li> </ul>
