Pediatrician
The Pediatrician works as part of the medical provider team providing medical services to the patients of the Health Center. They also will serve as a clinical resource to other clinical staff members. The Pediatrician will assist the Chief Medical Officer in the formulation of policy statements for approval by the governing authority.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Greets patients, vendors, and other providers either in person on the telephone in a courteous and professional manner.
  1. Provides primary medical care by caring for all patients in accordance with the physician’s medical specialty.
  2. Develops a plan of care for each patient, including complete medical history, medical diagnosis, appropriate treatment and/or referral, including hospitalization where necessary and stresses the importance of preventive health care measures.
  3. In accordance with standardized procedures, performs physical examinations and treats common episodic and health care conditions with an emphasis on health maintenance and disease prevention through education and counseling.
  4. Interviews with patients and/or family, constructs comprehensive medical histories, performs initial and periodic physical examinations, evaluate patient behavior and explores patient's interpretation of health needs.
  5. Uses all available resources in diagnosis and treatment, such as laboratory and diagnostic testing, in an appropriate and cost-efficient manner.
  6. Develops and implements long and short-range treatment plans.
  7. Maintains knowledge of pharmaceuticals to treat disease and illnesses, including knowledge of the mechanism of action, side effects, toxic nature, and drug interactions of medications.
  8. Responds to e-mail and telephone requests daily.
  9. Makes diagnosis, selects and provides appropriate treatment for medical or surgical emergencies.
  10. Maintains required documentation (electronically) and consults with collaborating physician as needed on changes in the patient's condition.
  11. Performs and interprets diagnostic tests in order to determine therapeutic treatment plans.
  12. Counsels patients and families as to preventive care, medical problems, psychological problems, and use of prescribed treatment and drugs.
  13. Confers with consulting physicians, extended providers, clinical support staff, patients, and patient's families (per policy) concerning treatment and care of patients.
  14. Refers those cases which require specialist services, but maintain responsibility, assuring that continuity of care is provided.
  15. Participates in the development and implementation of a regularly updated performance improvement plan for the health center.
  16. Participates in the Health Promotion/Disease Prevention activities required by the U.S. Public Health Service.
  17. Attends all medical staff meetings and participates in the Memphis Health Center's Q/A program.
  18. Performs other necessary duties as required by the Memphis Health center to meet the goals of providing quality health care.
  19. Demonstrates awareness of age-specific, cultural, and spiritual practices of patients, staff and visitors.
  20. Understands the functional status and physical needs of patients, staff and visitors.
  21. Understands specific duties/responsibilities as outlined in individual contracts.
  22. Updates current signed collaboration agreements annually.
  23. Ensures confidentiality and provides needed information to patient, family or other healthcare professionals as needed for patient care.
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  1. Licensed to practice in the state of Tennessee.
  2. Graduate of an accredited institution of medicine with a degree of Doctor of Medicine/Osteopathic Medicine.
  3. Completion of an approved residency program in the appropriate discipline of medical practice.
  4. Must maintain professional affiliation with a national medical society.
  5. Must have the ability to relate with warmth and effectiveness to the patients and other health care providers of the health center.
  6. Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.  Maintain BLS, PALS, & ACLS certifications as applicable.
