Dentist
Responsible for administering, maintaining, and expanding a program of primary and preventative dental care in a community heath center setting. Supervises the dental staff in conjunction with the Clinical Services Coordinator of Memphis Health Center Inc. and represents the dental staff to the Chief Medical Officer. Provides dental advice and counsel to the Chief Medical Officer as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides dental care for the patients by diagnosing and treating diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums
- Responsible for educating patients on oral health care.
- Makes visual examination of the patient's teeth and surrounding oral structures, utilizing x-rays, mouth mirror, explorer, instrument, and other diagnostic procedures, enters findings on a dental chart in patients’ medical record; decides upon and carries completion most feasible plan of treatment.
- Assist with treatment options and treatment plans for patients.
- Locates and repairs cavities on teeth.
- Extracts impacted infected, or otherwise diseased or troublesome teeth or perform root canal work.
- Makes impressions and models of jaw and mouth in preparation for dentures.
- Treats disease of teeth, gums, and mouth with appropriate drugs or by surgery.
- Markets services to potential patients.
- Manages budgets and maintains stocks of equipment.
- Maintains patient’s dental records.
- Examines individuals requesting care, diagnose their dental/oral conditions, prescribe and carry out or direct others to carry appropriate dental/oral treatment.
- Refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
- Educates individuals in the nature of oral health-related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health-related disease prevention.
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate from an accredited dental school
- Completed an accredited general practice residency program.
- Minimum of five years of clinical experience.
- Knowledge of public health principles and practices
- Excellent interpersonal and administrative management experience.
