Family Nurse Practitioner
Nurse Practitioners provide diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services to clinic patients. They assist in the observation and evaluation of patients, perform case histories, conduct physical examinations, order laboratory and other diagnostic tests, and refer patients to specialists or admission to the hospital.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Greets patients, vendors, and other providers either in person on the telephone in a courteous and professional manner.
  2. Ensures confidentiality and provides needed information to patient, family or other healthcare professionals as needed for patient care.
  3. In accordance with standardized procedures, performs physical examinations and treats common episodic and health care conditions with an emphasis on health maintenance and disease prevention through education and counseling.
  4. Works in collaboration with a specific Physician, Supervisor and other health care team members, consulting and referring as appropriate, but retains responsibility for ongoing clinical management of the patient.
  5. Interviews with patients and/or family, constructs comprehensive medical histories, performs initial and periodic physical examinations, evaluate patient behavior and explores patient's interpretation of health needs.
  6. Develops and implements long and short-range treatment plans.
  7. Maintains knowledge of pharmaceuticals to treat disease and illnesses, including knowledge of the mechanism of action, side effects, toxic nature, and drug interactions of medications.
  8. Perform and interpret diagnostic tests in order to determine therapeutic treatment plans.
  9. Counsels patients and families as to preventive care, medical problems, psychological problems, and use of prescribed treatment and drugs.
  10. Performs other necessary duties as required by the health center to meet the goal of providing primary health care services.
  11. Respond to e-mail and telephone requests daily.
  12. Makes diagnosis, selects, and provides appropriate treatment for medical or surgical emergencies.
  13. Maintains required documentation (electronically) and consults with collaborating physician as needed on changes in the patient's condition.
  14.  Writes orders to increase, decrease, or change medication (subject to collaborating and medical consultation as indicated.
  15. Demonstrate awareness of age-specific, cultural, and spiritual practices of patients, staff, and visitors.
  16. Understands the functional status and physical needs of patients, staff and visitors.
  17. Update current signed collaboration agreements annually.
 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  1. One to three years of nursing experience
  2. Master’s degree in nursing; Current NP license for the State of TN is required
  3. Current BLS, PALS & ACLS certifications as applicable.
  4. Current DEA License
  5. The ability to use electronic health record system.
  6. The ability to communicate effectively in person, on the telephone, and via e-mail with other staff, the public, the patients and the medical staff
