Description
Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) is an evidence-based treatment used to treat and prevent the use of alcohol and substances. The goal of SBIRT is to target those with nondependent substance use and treat them before they become depend. In this two part lunch and learn webinar, Pam Pietruszweski, MA of the National Council for Behavioral Health will give a brief overview of SBIRT concepts and how to apply it in practice.

Presenter: Pam Pietruszewski
Pam Pietruszewski is an integrated health consultant with the National Council for Behavioral Health. She has more than 20 years’ experience in primary care and behavioral health integration, with specialties in screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) and motivational interviewing for behavioral change. Pietruszewski is the clinical lead for the Hilton Foundation’s Reducing Adolescent Substance Abuse Initiative and is listed in the National Registry of SBIRT Trainers from the Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) Network, established by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Previously, she was a director at the Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement (ICSI). Her work includes the DIAMOND Initiative, a depression care management program that received the 2010 Gold Award from the American Psychiatric Association; COMPASS, one of the largest CMS Innovation awards to implement collaborative care across eight states; and the Partners in Integrated Care (PIC) project to disseminate an integration model for depression and risky substance use across four states. Pietruszewski has authored several papers on care management for depression and risky substance use, and holds a master’s degree in counseling and psychological services from St. Mary’s University in Minnesota.
