Session Description
Preceptorships are designed to expose medical students to rural primary care practiced in a manner sensitive to the culture. Preceptors play an important and valued role in the overall educational process for students and help them become successful practitioners and colleagues. Preceptors act as mentors and role models helping students strengthen their skills in patient examinations and consultations, diagnostic and treatment assessments, medical recording and reporting, and other aspects of patient care.
Session Objectives
- Through the information and resources presented, participants will be able to develop preceptorship opportunities, coordinate a residency program, and develop affiliation agreements with academic partners.
- Describe the framework for a streamlined health professions student training program and best practices for an efficient and effective program.
- Identify the value of a residency/fellowship program in workforce planning and the necessary structure, design, and content of the 12-month NP residency program to inform workforce investments.
- Apply knowledge to act on the RTAT data upon release and the free resources available through the National Training and Technical Assistance Partners (NTTAPs).
