CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS
Submission Deadline: October 31, 2007

Tennessee Primary Care Association (TPCA) invites individuals with an interest in primary care for the underserved to submit session ideas for presentation during its 31st annual conference. There will be three concurrent sessions of 1 ½ hours during each breakout.

Conference Description/Goals
TPCA hosts its annual conference to offer training for its members and other interested members of the primary health care community. We offer educational workshops for the following attendees: health center administrators, health center medical directors and clinicians, health center financial managers, health center board members, and health center support staff. Our members include over 130 primary care practices sites that serve more than 250,000 patients annually. We anticipate 150-175 people will attend the conference.

The Tennessee Primary Care Association is a nonprofit association whose members include community health centers and other health care organizations that serve the underserved population. Our mission it to strengthen community-based primary health care systems in Tennessee .

Learning Objectives and Teaching Styles/Session Length/Audio Visuals
Workshops are scheduled for 1½ hours, including time for questions and answers.

We request that each speaker develop learning objectives for their workshop. When possible we ask that the facilitator use alternative presentation styles rather than just a lecture with PowerPoint. Adults learners have a variety of learning styles and we want to keep them engaged in the process. We suggest a combination of learning tools: shared best practices, case studies, video vignettes, role play, group discussion, etc.

Speakers are required to e-mail their presentation and/or supplementary materials to the program coordinator at least a month prior to the conference—final deadline is March 30. Presentations will be loaded into a laptop and an LCD will be provided. TPCA will reproduce session handouts for attendees. We will provide a microphone and flipchart if needed.

Benefits to the speaker include the opportunity to meet this audience and make them familiar with you and your topic. Our annual conference is a wonderful opportunity to network with key members of the safety-net community in Tennessee , including administrators, clinicians, and support staff of clinics throughout the state..

Proposed Topics/Format
Presentations may be in three formats: individual presenter(s); panel discussion; and roundtable discussion. The roundtables will be informal opportunities for colleagues to discuss a topic with a facilitator acting as discussion leader.

Topics should be focused on one of these audiences: health center administrators, financial managers, board members, medical directors/clinicians, support staff, health professions students. Submissions will be reviewed by the conference program committee and selected for their relevance.

Suggested topics (feel free to submit other topics relevant to attendees) from this year’s program committee:
